The Monahan Bros. are Entrepreneurs of the Year...Ok, Almost...Cross Fingers Now!

Apr 20, 2012 - Redwood Shores, CA—One of the coolest things about Inflection is our founders' back-story. In a very small nutshell, Midwestern brothers Matthew and Brian Monahan founded the company when they were incredibly young to do things like start big successful Internet companies. Matthew, a USC dropoout, and Brian, a Harvard dropout, made their way out West by way of freight train boxcar, fishing for dinner and riding the rails with other hobos hoping to ply their wares in the Valley made of Silicon.

Ok. Not exactly. But every good origin story benefits from a little fish. In truth, Matthew and Brian created an excellent and profitable company without benefit of inside connections, big-time funding, or any of the other leg-ups that help grease the corporate wheels. What they did have was a bunch of great ideas and a passion for building superb products. We know this here, but are pleased as punch that Ernst & Young has selected Matthew and Brian as semi-finalists for their prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Hundreds apply, and the panel whittles it down to 57 of the best applicants. The finalists are announced April 30th, so we've all got our fingers crossed. As for the competition, there's some serious contenders on there (I'm looking at you Mark Pincus), but we're feeling good about our prospects. Oh, and if you're curious about what it is the Monahans did exactly, may I suggest going here and here.
