In January 2010, we began making a charitable donation every time we released a new version of our software as our way of giving back to the global community that makes our success possible. Inflection team members nominate causes and organizations that they want to support.
To celebrate our 8.2 release, and in celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Women@Inflection focused their March initiatives on supporting the women in our greater community. Women@Inflection is an organization within Inflection focusing on improving the opportunities for our employees and supporting women in the community. Women@Inflection partnered with the 8.2 release to support La Casa de las Madres and Girls to Women. These two organizations stood out to us for the incredible grassroots aid they’re providing to girls and women in the Bay Area.
Girls to Women
Girls to Women is a nonprofit after-school & summer youth development program for underprivileged girls in East Palo Alto. The organization helps young girls gain access to learning opportunities outside of the classroom. On March 21st, G2W held the Margaret Wright Wellness 5K in Mountain View, CA to raise awareness and support for their organization, which is the only girl-centered youth development organization in the community.
Women@Inflection brought our friends and family out on an early Saturday morning to participate in the race. The G2W 5K was a fun-filled morning that brought the team together in support of a great cause. Women@Inflection was honored to represent Inflection on the course and on the podium, with two of our employees taking 1st and 3rd place in the men’s division, and our extended Inflectionite family member, Elizabeth Lenczowski, taking 1st place in the women’s division. We raised $1,000 with 33 of us proudly walking and running in the race!
Las Casa de las Madres
La Casa de las Madres is a shelter in San Francisco for women, teens, and children exposed to and at risk of abuse. La Casa de las Madres offers comprehensive and empowering services to women, teens, and children exposed to and at risk of abuse. They provide access, tools, and support to empower individuals and families to break the cycle of violence. La Casa is also helping to develop expectations of non-violence and encourage community discussions about domestic abuse.
There are a lot of basic items that the shelter needs. For example, the shelter uses over 400 toothbrushes each year! To support La Casa, we put together a comprehensive package of things they need, including some other items that we found would be great to receive such as nail polish and children’s books. If you’re interested in donating, the shelter takes donations from recent spring cleaning your family may be doing. Check out their website to see if your giveaway items could benefit a family in need. Bonus: if your kids surprise you and become potty-trained overnight, La Casa would greatly appreciate any diaper donations.
